Tigres at La Amanita

La Amanita is currently “the local” for the Burgalesa and I. On returning from an unexpectedly extended visit to the ‘Diff, we decided that the best way to settle back in to Burgos / Tigre life would be a quick hop around the corner to familiar surroundings.

Though part of a chain (I recall we counted 7 other cafés / bars in the group), La Amanita is comfortable, friendly and usually busy. The Tigres were not on display at the bar, but came out of the kitchen freshly fried.

Not expecting anything too special, I think we were both surprised by just how good these Tigres were. Though slightly dark around the corners, they did not taste at all burnt. The batter was crisp, giving way to a thick layer of béchamel coating the entire shell, making it easy to remove and eat all the edible material used in the construction of this treat. The mussel itself had good flavour and consistency: not too ripe nor too thick. The mussel’s foot was still attached to the shell on both Tigres.

Great Tigres, great happiness.
